DROMS

Distributed Resources Optimization and Management System

AutoGrid’s Demand Response Optimization and Management System (DROMS) is a fully integrated software applications suite to predict and control millions of connected distributed energy resources (DERs) across the Energy Internet.

It delivers four powerful capabilities to position your demand response programs for success in the rapidly evolving world of the Energy Internet :

  • Deploys a single, comprehensive demand response management system (DRMS) application covering all assets, programs and customer segments
  • Provides an engaging customer experience for higher program yield
  • Enables dispatch-grade DR through complex business rules, and highly accurate load shed forecasting and M&V
  • Scales rapidly for quick rollout and easy extension of new programs
  • All Assets, All Customers, All Programs
DROMS supports the entire breadth of DER programs across all capacity, energy, and ancillary services value streams enabling you to quickly deploy new programs across all customer segments, and rapidly on-board new assets. DERs managed by DROMS include a broad selection of residential, commercial and industrial energy assets such as smart solar inverters, battery storage systems, Electric Vehicle (EV) chargers, Combined Heat and Power (CHP) units, backup generators, smart thermostats, HVAC systems, commercial building lighting systems, smart thermostats, water heaters, pool pumps and load control switches.
  • Intelligent, Scalable, Flexible Technology
Using powerful data science, advanced machine learning and high-performance network optimization algorithms, AutoGrid’s Predictive Controls technology processes petabytes of data streaming from millions of connected energy assets to precisely predict and optimize supply and demand patterns across the Energy Internet – all in real time and at scale. AutoGrid’s unique and patented architecture supports unprecedented configurability to support different cost functions and proprietary user-defined data science models for different markets around the world.
  • Low Risk, Rapid Deployment
AutoGrid’s Energy Data Platform (EDP) can be securely deployed in a matter of days on public or private clouds. Unlike other vendors that require years to stitch together multiple legacy solutions, AutoGrid provides the first and only open-standards-based, cloud-native platform, built from the ground up on a modern big data technology stack – with NoSQL, Hadoop, Kafka and Spark – to manage millions of distributed energy resources in a scalable manner. AutoGrid’s well-defined APIs and open and flexible enterprise messaging architecture allow for fast integration into even the most complex IT environments.

Some of the case studies where DROMS has been used are presented below:

  • Silver Spring Networks: Silver Spring Networks, a leading networking platform and solutions provider for smart energy networks speaks about their strategic partnership with AutoGrid. The two enterprises are jointly developing the Silver Spring UtilityIQ™ Demand Optimizer solution, powered by AutoGrid’s DROMS application, to enable utilities, grid operators, service providers and large power consumers to implement traditional and advanced demand response and demand side management programs quickly, securely and cost-effectively.
  • City of Palo Alto: The City of Palo Alto Utilities (CPAU) has been using AutoGrid’s Demand Respond Optimization & Management System (DROMS) to help large, industrial customers shed power. The DROMS application has allowed CPAU to shed an average of 1.2 megawatts of peak demand, saving 3.5 megawatt hours of electricity, per event. CPAU’s rapid installation of DROMS software and the platform’s growth, with the success of their DR program, demonstrates the ease of implementation and scalability of the system.
